York Library

The York Public Library is a new building in the center of York. While working at Tappe Associates, David King became project architect of the Library at the end of schematic design. He designed the plans and interiors, and followed the project through its completion.

The building serves as a Library and also as a community center, where the Town Aldermen and other civic groups meet regularly. The main floor is organized around a central skylit reading room, with adjacent areas for young adults and a smaller reading area with a working fireplace.

The south side of the Library faces a pond surrounded by willows and indigenous plants; the children’s garden, encircled by a low granite wall, looks out over the water.
