Mendon-Upton Public Library

This Study for a 35,000 square foot library to serve the two towns of Mendon and Upton was completed in December of 2000. David King was the lead designer for Tappe Associates, and also wrote the program for the project, in conjunction with the staffs of the current Mendon and Upton Libraries.

A site with a beautiful panaromic southeast view was donated for the Library. The site planning and programming of the new Library were developed in consultation with the library staffs and the building committee. The project was developed in drawings and models, and the central space of the library design is a large barn-like room with exposed wooden trusses. The adjacent reading room looks out on the fields and river below.

In June of 2001, the project was approved for a state MBLC grant.
