The Heath Free Public Library will be a new library serving a small community in northwestern Massachusetts. The new building will have three times as much space as the existing library, and will include a sizable meeting room for public use. The major public spaces are oriented towards the south; and while the childrenâs library takes advantage of the morning sun, the main reading room faces southwest, overlooking the surrounding hills and the Town Center below. The building will be heated and cooled by a ground source heat pump, and all of the public spaces will be daylit with operable windows. Wherever possible sustainable design methods will be used to make the building more energy efficient.
